Yes, generally, most nordic skis can be ground. What nordic skis can be stone ground, specifically? Modern ski bases that have a sintered polyethylene base are the best candidates for grinding. Current generation performance/race skis that are well cared for can easily handle 3-5 grinds. Classic, skate, skin skis, and zero skis can all be ground on the Tazzari machine.
Skis with damaged sidewalls or missing sidewall material are not good candidates for grinding. When sidewall material is damaged or missing the fed ski doesn’t evenly distribute the pressure along the ski base and the base will not be restored effectively.
The economics of grinding entry level touring/back country skis and some kid’s skis may not add up or pass the cost/benefit test. I would lump all metal edge and scale (non waxable) skis in this group. Metal edge skis can damage the stone!
All of the major brands (Rossi, Fischer, Salomon, etc.) produce kid’s skis that may meet the test and are generally identified by price range and use (race specific models).
Please reach out if you have any questions on skis and whether or not they can be safely stone ground at Ski Slip MT!
