Universal Cold Grind

…Universal cold grind that runs well in new snow conditions across a broad range of temperatures (SLSu and SLCu). This is the description of my current universal cold grind meant for use across cold locales that enjoy cold snow and may need moisture management or run well in a “broad range of temperatures.”  This grind is a combination of two well known and time tested grinds from the Tazzari catalog but slightly finer (both depth and cut frequency) for use in North America.  This was the first grind I “developed” with Lars and put on snow in January of 2025 down in West Yellowstone, MT. This grind tested well against other third party grinds and is a combination of crossed and linear oblique structures and creates enough air space or interference between snow and ski to allow a free feeling release of the ski on the snow.  This structure will not feel heavy skating uphill in v1 or gliding downhill and will elegently cover a wide temperature range of -2c / -12c.

A note on race hardening after creating a universal cold grind.  We thoroughly clean the ski base to remove any grinding residue.  We then use a heatbox to saturate the freshly ground base and rehydrate the base material with Goldmaker Plus.  After scraping and brushing the ski will be completely clean.  To harden the base material we apply Goldmaker Graphite Base with an iron and reheat 2 times after allowing full cooling cycles.  The graphite is scraped and brushed and a hard cold wax is applied.  Something in the intended temperature use range, e.g., a flouro free blue wax in the current discussion.  The skis are race ready!
